We’ve said it before, when it comes to home moving, organization is key to a successful moving day!

Like anything, however, this is much easier said than done. Everything from finding a new home to taking care of your utilities, bills, packing up your old home, cleaning, hiring professional movers, and more – there is quite a bit to think about as you get ready to move. These are often the high-level priority items in a home move, but what about the overlooked areas of moving?

We call these “overlooked moving essentials”, and they are just that – essential. These are things you’ll want with you before moving day and when you arrive at your new home.

Moving checklist

Nothing says “organization” like a moving checklist, and we can’t stress the importance of these enough. This is an organized plan on how you’re going to attack your move, starting from a few weeks before your move all the way through moving day and into your new home.

In a perfect world, you can move into your new home with zero issues. But that is a perfect world, and this is the real one.

It’s not much of a secret that the moving process can be a little messy. This makes having cleaning supplies readily available an important part of moving so that if a mess happens, you’re able to clean it up right away.

Clorox wipes, toilet cleaner, laundry soap, cleaning spray, and more are all good ideas to have purchased prior to moving day.

Plastic bags

Plastic bags are a cheap, versatile, and easy tool on moving day. Everything from carrying loose items that didn’t make it in the packing process to quickly disposing of trash can be handled with plastic bags, so have a stash of them ready.

Batteries and chargers

We can’t live without technology anymore, right? Well, that makes chargers and batteries essential. You want to make sure that when you’re moving into your new home, you still can access phones, tablets, laptops, remotes, clocks, and various home appliances.

Use these 4 holiday packing tips to ease your holiday fatigue

With the bustling holiday season now behind us, that means the fun decorations and lights must come down and get packed into storage for the next 11 months until it’s time to do it again!

Although it’s not always an enjoyable task (hence why we still see Christmas lights in February!) but with the proper planning and execution, it doesn’t have to be such a burden.

We’ve put together a few quick and helpful tips to make the holiday season clean up a breeze.

Have a plan

Taking down the holiday decorations and getting everything moved and packed can’t be finished in 20 minutes – it takes time and planning to get the job done right and to get those breakable items stored away safe and sound.

Examine your current situation, pick a place to start, and go room-by-room as you take everything down, carefully and efficiently wrapping and packing them away. This will also help when it comes to organizing your belongings in storage.

Boxes, boxes, boxes

There’s no such thing as “too many” boxes, especially around the holidays, and that’s why it’s important to have an abundance on-hand to ensure everything has a place to go.

Boxes will provide enough space to keep everything, and will also make moving items into a closet or storage that much easier and organized. Be sure to label each box so that when next year comes, you can find exactly what you’re looking for!

Put away that extra furniture

Chances are that at some point during the holiday season, you had to get out extra furniture to accommodate for guests during holiday parties and visits. Whether this furniture will be moved into another room, a closet, the garage, or storage – be sure to only move what you can handle.

Pack with a purpose

Even more so than normal, packing away holiday items requires extra care and attention to detail, as these are often specialty items that can be fragile or easily broken. Remember to use proper packing supplies like packing paper, tissue paper, and bubble wrap to protect those ornaments and decorations as they go back into boxes. Bubble wrap and plastic sheeting

Protection for your belongings is crucial, and that’s where the bubble wrap comes into play. Use plastic sheeting to cover your carpets or furniture to help keep them clean as your items get moved in.

Markers and stickers

Use markers or color-coated stickers to keep track of everything and label your moving boxes. This will alert you to where important items are, and can keep you on track with your moving checklist.

Toilet paper/paper towels

Food and drinks
