TWO MEN AND A TRUCK long-distance moving options for all move sizes and budgets

Customer talking with mover next to truck with mask on

People tend to think of local home moving when they think of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK – and rightfully so – but did you know we also specialize in long-distance moving, too?

It was only right for us to take our local home moving expertise and turn it into multiple service options for long-distance relocations, and we’ve done just that. Long-distance moving can be a challenge, but with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, you can trust your belongings are in good hands as we help you get to your new destination quickly and efficiently.

We have three long-distance options for our customers: Expedited, crated, and Value Flex®.

Expedited

This is the traditional option of the three, and is exactly what you’d expect when thinking of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and long-distance moving: our drivers will load up your belongings into one of our 26 ft. moving trucks and hit the road to your new home.

This option provides you with an exact date of delivery for your items, allowing you to plan ahead as you commute to the new destination yourself. Also, your items are the only belongings in the truck during transport, and we offer GPS tracking so you can stay up-to-date on the whereabouts of your items.

Value Flex-Container

For those moving long-distance on a budget, Value Flex is your answer. Providing the same great service you’d get with a normal, local move, you get pricing and flexibility not normally found in long-distance relocation.

Your items are loaded into a 16 ft., portable container by the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location in your area, and then loaded onto a third-party carrier and shipped to your new city. There, a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise in the area will complete the unload and help deliver the items to your new home.

We provide customers with a 48-hour window of delivery, and you’ll never share container space with other customers.

Value Flex – Crate

This is a new service at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and is ideal for those who just need to ship a few belongings long distance. Your items are loaded into a secured, cardboard crate that holds approximately 1,000 lbs. The crate is then loaded onto a third-party carry and delivered to the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location closest to your new destination.

As always, your belongings are the only items in the containers and you are given the same 48-hour window of delivery you would get with Value Flex. Please note: This option is only available at select TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise locations.

Use these 4 simple tips for planning a downsize move

Somehow, some way, the summer season has already passed us by and we’re working our way into the fall season.

This means football, back to school, the weather finally cooling off, and for some people – downsizing their home. If there was ever a time to downsize – whether it’s getting rid of some old belongings, or moving on from your home and transitioning to a new, smaller living space – it’s right before winter hits.

However, downsizing is much easier said than done, and can be a stressful task as it usually involves parting ways with certain items that might be meaningful to you and your family. Deciding what you still need and what you don’t have any use for is not easy, but it’s part of the downsizing process.

The best advice we can give is to build a plan on how you want to downsize and take it step by step to avoid getting overwhelmed. We’ve built out four helpful tips below to help you with the process!

Start early

This is especially important for those who have a downsizing plan that involves moving. You’ll want to get started a few months in advance of moving day so you’re ready when the movers show up at your door. Go day-by-day, room-by-room, and slowly chip away at your downsizing plan so you can manage everything without having too much on your plate.

Toss or donate items you no longer use

When figuring out what you’re going get rid of, one easy question to ask yourself is this: how much will I still use this?

If the first thought you have is “not very often”, then maybe it’s time to part ways. This is a helpful mindset to have during the process of downsizing and will help you feel better about moving on from certain things. You can also evaluate certain items by determining how recent you’ve used it. If it’s been sitting for more than a year, chances are it’s no longer of use to you.

If you have items that you need to get rid of but don’t want to take care of it yourself, we now offer junk removal services at select locations!

Try to be flexible

Moving is complicated, and so is downsizing. This is why staying flexible – and calm, if possible – is important. Plans can change, people can have different opinions, and you never know how you’re going to feel until you’re in the moment. Do your best to keep your downsizing and moving tasks simple and work patiently toward your goal.

Practice patience

A downsizing move and the process that it requires won’t in happen in a day – it takes time. Once you have an ideal move date in mind, work slowly, day-by-day, to chip away at the necessary tasks in order to eliminate as much stress as possible when moving day arrives.

If you’re looking for help on completing an upcoming downsizing move, we’re here to help! Whether it’s helping with the entire move or just assisting with packing, delivery, or loading and unloading – our professional moving teams are ready to help. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises give back through branded campaigns to their local communities during the fall season

It’s hard to believe, but somehow, September has already arrived. Summer is coming to a close, fall is right around the corner, and that signals a major movement for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand: giving back to our communities over the next few months!

While this is an ongoing effort throughout the year, the fall season is a particularly busy time for us as we give back to local organizations through our four, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK fall cause campaigns. These fall campaigns are great ways for our franchises to give back through different avenues which are important to them and their teams. Our founder, Mary Ellen Sheets, made it a point from day one that giving back in the areas we work and live would be a top priority for our franchises, and we’ve continued to live out this mission since the mid-1980s.

On top of our four fall campaigns, we’ve also developed meaningful and impactful relationships with organizations like Convoy of Hope and Cheeriodicals, who we work with year-round as we donate our resources to help with their individual missions.

Below, you can learn a little about each of our four call cause campaigns and what they stand for. If you want to get involved with these in your area, click here to use our franchise locator and find the location closest to you and contact them directly!

Top 5 expert tips for moving into college dorms

As summer comes to an end, many young adults are starting to get ready to move into their college dorms. Whether it’s your first or fourth year, these tips will help you to maximize your storage and make the most of your small living space!

Start with a packing list

Creating a packing list before moving into your dorm will allow you to save time and space. A list can also help make sure that you’re only bringing the necessities so you don’t have extra clutter you probably will not need.

Look at your dorm before you move in

Since there are a few different types of dorm styles, look on your school’s website before moving in to see pictures of your future space. This will help you to come up with ideas on how you’re going to organize the room and make it livable for you.

Every space is a storage space

Whether you’re living in a dorm or a smaller apartment, finding storage can be tricky. Places like underneath the bed, desk drawers, a shelf of the closet, etc., can be used to store any of your things. You can even use the back of your door as a hanging shoe rack, or to hang towels.

Hold onto your boxes

Be sure to hang onto the boxes you use when you move in. This will make the process of moving out much less stressful. Flatten out the boxes when you’re done to minimize the amount of space they take up.

Make it your own

Since you’ll be spending the next several months in your new dorm, make it a place you enjoy being in. Create a plan with your roommate on how you want to decorate and personalize your room so you’re both able to have a space you’re comfortable in.

Although it may seem like you don’t have much room in a college dorm, you can always get creative with your new space. Follow these tips to start your new school year in college off right!

A dog with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving boxes

Follow these simple tips to allow your pets to adjust during your next move

-Written by Christina Baker

Moving is a hectic time for everyone. There is an endless to-do list and your mind may seem as though it’s in a million different places at once. With that said, it’s important not to forget about your pet as you make your move.

Whether this pet be a dog, cat, fish, smaller animal, etc., helping them throughout the move will impact how they adjust to their new home. Moving may come with its challenges, but don’t let giving your pet a new home be one of them! Follow these tips on how to best help your pet adjust to their new atmosphere.

Dogs

  • Make sure your dog’s health is a top priority during this move. Take them to their vet to make sure they are healthy enough to be included in the moving process, as this will ensure that both you and them have a better moving experience.
  • Introduce your dog to the movers! Dogs can be very protective over their family. Make sure you show your dog that your movers are not a threat to them or their family. This will help to calm them down and become familiar with these new people.
  • Carry objects that remind them of home! To help keep your dog calm during this crazy time, try to carry a toy or small blanket on you that will help to distract them.
  • Since most moving companies don’t handle moving animals, be sure to have other arrangements for them. We recommend keeping a crate in your car to help move them from home to the next.

Cats

  • It’s no secret that cats can be very anxious. Help them through the move by making sure they have a quiet place to themselves far from all the moving commotion.
  • Be sure to have a crate in the car for your cat when moving. Try to have objects such as toys and bedding in the crate so your cat is more comfortable in the car ride.
  • Talk to your veterinarian before the move to check if your cat needs any type of medication to help keep them calm during the moving process.

Fish

  • To help your fish better acclimate to their new environment, start by cleaning out their tank the morning of your move.
  • Drain all the water out, take any toys out of the tank and clean those as well.
  • Put your fish in a secure bag or container with clean water for the trip.
  • Once you’ve arrived in your new home, put fresh water into the new tank and put your fish back into their tank!

Small Animals

  • Small pets usually include hamsters, guinea pigs, and gerbils, who may also need help adjusting to a move.
  • Small pets can travel in their normal cages, just be sure their cage is sealed so they cannot escape during this hectic time.
  • Its extremely important to regulate the temperature of their cage to help keep them healthy during the move.

We hope you enjoyed reading these tips for moving with your pets!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Junk Container in Driveway

What TWO MEN AND TRUCK can’t move during junk removals

A TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Junk Truck

You’ve probably seen us talking about it on our websites, our blog, our social channels … just about everywhere, but if you still need a reminder: TWO MEN AND A TRUCK now offers junk removal!

That’s right – our professional moving services can now be used to help you remove and dispose of unwanted junk and other items. It’s a natural fit for our brand, and we can now send our professional moving teams to your home or business to remove as little or as much as you need utilizing our specialized junk removal trucks. Why do all the heavy lifting when we can do it for you?

This service fits perfectly with those doing home renovations, decluttering, staging a home for sale, renovating their office building, or for those who simply just want to get rid of items they’ve accumulated over the years. We won’t judge on your reasons for moving on from certain belongings, but we’ll definitely help you get rid of it!

However, we can’t haul away everything, and it’s important to know which items we aren’t able to handle during your junk removal.

Items that cannot be taken with the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® junk removal service:

  • Hazardous materials, liquid-based items, wet paint, oil, chemicals, household cleaners, HAZMAT materials, flammable items, gasoline, propane, mercury-based materials, oil filters, and batteries
  • Asbestos
  • Sealed tanks/drums
  • Medical waste
  • Household trash or garbage

Items that may be restricted (please check with your local government, state regulations, or disposal facility):

  • Electronics that are considered e-waste, including CRT televisions
  • Appliances with liquids associated with them (considered hazardous materials), AC units, refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers
  • Appliances not emptied
  • Yard waste such as trees, brush, grass, sod, mulch, and other vegetative waste can be hauled with guidelines. Most disposal facilities recycle this material so it shouldn’t be mixed with other junk material. Dirt, sod, or mulch may have capacity limitations due to weight.
  • Tires are usually not accepted at disposal facilities and considered hazmat, however, you could reach out to a local tire recycle or business to see if they would take them.
  • Heavy or dense material such as roofing shingles, concrete, asphalt, dirt, brick, or miscellaneous debris

A TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Junk Truck

DSC_4318

Regardless of where you live, there’s one thing that is coming up for everyone: spring cleaning. We can lift, haul away, and dispose of any unwanted items or junk you might have around your home or business, and we will remove as little or as much as you need.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s junk removal service is great for removing the following:

  • Household furniture
  • Business furniture
  • Mattresses or box springs
  • Appliances
  • Carpeting
  • TVs
  • Exercise equipment
  • Electronics or appliances (please check with franchise to see if they are able)

Similarly, this works well for anyone who needs furniture disposal, office cleanout, garage cleanout, estate cleaning, business cleanout, or downsizing. Please note: junk removal services are only available at select franchise locations. Please contact the location in your area to see if this service is available.

For the rest of your spring cleaning tasks, we’ve developed a few other useful tips for you to follow below!

Develop a plan

Know what you want to get done around the house, and come up with a step-by-step plan to follow so you can stay on track and organized as you work through spring cleaning tasks. The checklist we’ve attached below will help with this step!

Take inventory of your cleaning supplies and materials

You can’t have spring cleaning without the proper spring cleaning materials and supplies, right? Before you get started, make sure you have enough of everything – from cleaning products to wipes, trash bags, rags, and more. Stock up in advance or pull out the supplies you probably already have in your home.

Purge unwanted items

A good idea during spring cleaning is to also work on decluttering your home and getting rid of those items that don’t serve a purpose anymore. Not using it? Toss it! You could also set these items aside for a garage sale at a later date.

Take your time

Spring cleaning probably won’t be finished in two hours – it’s going to take some time to work through your whole home, so pace yourself and take everything in stride. Chipping away with a few things at a time will make the whole process go a lot smoother.
