What TWO MEN AND TRUCK can’t move during junk removals

A TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Junk Truck

You’ve probably seen us talking about it on our websites, our blog, our social channels … just about everywhere, but if you still need a reminder: TWO MEN AND A TRUCK now offers junk removal!

That’s right – our professional moving services can now be used to help you remove and dispose of unwanted junk and other items. It’s a natural fit for our brand, and we can now send our professional moving teams to your home or business to remove as little or as much as you need utilizing our specialized junk removal trucks. Why do all the heavy lifting when we can do it for you?

This service fits perfectly with those doing home renovations, decluttering, staging a home for sale, renovating their office building, or for those who simply just want to get rid of items they’ve accumulated over the years. We won’t judge on your reasons for moving on from certain belongings, but we’ll definitely help you get rid of it!

However, we can’t haul away everything, and it’s important to know which items we aren’t able to handle during your junk removal.

Items that cannot be taken with the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® junk removal service:

  • Hazardous materials, liquid-based items, wet paint, oil, chemicals, household cleaners, HAZMAT materials, flammable items, gasoline, propane, mercury-based materials, oil filters, and batteries
  • Asbestos
  • Sealed tanks/drums
  • Medical waste
  • Household trash or garbage

Items that may be restricted (please check with your local government, state regulations, or disposal facility):

  • Electronics that are considered e-waste, including CRT televisions
  • Appliances with liquids associated with them (considered hazardous materials), AC units, refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers
  • Appliances not emptied
  • Yard waste such as trees, brush, grass, sod, mulch, and other vegetative waste can be hauled with guidelines. Most disposal facilities recycle this material so it shouldn’t be mixed with other junk material. Dirt, sod, or mulch may have capacity limitations due to weight.
  • Tires are usually not accepted at disposal facilities and considered hazmat, however, you could reach out to a local tire recycle or business to see if they would take them.
  • Heavy or dense material such as roofing shingles, concrete, asphalt, dirt, brick, or miscellaneous debris

Please note: TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s junk removal service is available at select franchise locations. Click here to search for the franchise closest to you and see if junk removal is being offered.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK long-distance moving options for every need

We made our name in the world of local home moving, but did you know that TWO MEN AND A TRUCK can provide the same world-class experience with long-distance moving, too?

That’s right! Throughout our 35 years of moving, we’ve worked hard to listen to our customers’ needs and build a package of long-distance moving plans that are sure to meet any moving need, budget, and situation. Long-distance moving can be a stressful process but with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, it doesn’t have to be.

We offer three long-distance options for our customers: expedited and Value Flex® container and crated options.

Expedited

The quickest and most traditional option that we have, you can expect a quick delivery time to your home, often times with the same movers who loaded up your belongings. We will provide an exact date of delivery for arrival of your belongings, which helps you plan ahead as you work to commute to your new residence.

Your items are the only items that are on the truck during transit, and we have GPS tracking on our trucks so you know where your belongings are at all times.

Value Flex – Container

This works well for those who need to move long-distance, but on a budget. We provide the same great service you’d come to expect from our local home moving, but with the flexibility and pricing you wouldn’t normally find with long-distance moving.

Your items are loaded into a 16 ft., container by the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location closest to you before being loaded on to a third-party carrier and shipped to your new city. There, the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise closest to you will help unload the items from the container and deliver them to your new home. We provide a 48-hour window of delivery to help you plan, and you never share container space with other customers.

Value Flex – Crate This is a new service at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and is ideal for those who just need to ship a few belongings long distance. Your items are loaded into a secured, cardboard crate that holds approximately 1,000 lbs. The crate is then loaded onto a third-party carry and delivered to the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location closest to your new destination.

As always, your belongings are the only items in the containers and you are given the same 48-hour window of delivery you would get with Value Flex. Please note: This option is only available at select TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise locations.

Top 4 professional packing tips for your upcoming move

TMAT256

People ask us all the time about the best ways to get prepared for an upcoming move. Our answer? Proper packing!

Packing is vital to any move, and will make a difference in not only how fast and efficient moving day goes for you, but also how easy the post-move process is as you adjust to your new home or business. Being prepared for your move starts with packing and organizing so that come moving day, your moving team can come in and promptly begin loading up the moving truck.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK has been doing this moving and packing thing for some time, and we’ve seen all of the way customers should – and should not – go about a move.

Check out our best packing tips below to help you get started for your next home, apartment, college, or even business move!

Get started early!

This is the best step to planning ahead with your move. If you can get packing out of the way early in the process, you’ll eliminate a massive amount of moving day stress.

Create a plan for packing, go room-by-room, and tackle a little bit of the process each day as you work toward move day. Use this moving day check list to get you on the right track!

Protect your belongings

There’s no point in packing if you’re items aren’t safe and protected. The best way to keep everything safe is by using proper packing supplies such as bubble wrap, packing paper, tape, and moving boxes.

A good tip to remember while packing up your belongings: the heavier the item is, the smaller the box should be.

Pack by room

As we mentioned above, it’s ideal to pack room-by-room. This will help not only keep similar items together, but will also help you in keeping track of where everything is and will help the movers load and unload boxes and furniture in a more organized fashion.

Label everything

You’re probably reading that and thinking “that’s obvious”, but it’s worth mentioning still! If you forget to label your boxes with what’s inside, you’re going to be scrambling and digging through boxes at your new home.

Clearly and accurately label each box so that both you and the moving team know what’s in the box and where it belongs on moving day. If you label the contents inside, this will also help you during the unpacking process, in knowing what you should unpack quickly in your new home, and what can wait a little longer.

Here are some moving tips from the moving pros at our franchises – the ones who live in the world of moving each and every day!

“Have all of your loose items boxed up and packed away, and also make sure to label the boxes. Make sure to have a game plan for unpacking the boxes, too.” – Shawn – Operations Manager – Lorain-Medina, Ohio

“With your packed boxes, take them all into the garage. It’s going to save a lot of time for us with the move and will also save you some money on your bill at the end of the move.” – Anthony – Team Lead – Lincoln, Nebraska

The differences of moving yourself vs. hiring professionals

TMAT451

One of the biggest decisions you have to make when it’s time to move is whether you’ll do it on your own or hire professional movers.

There is a general misconception around hiring professional movers, you might think it’s expensive and not worth the cost. So instead, many people go about a move on their own and with help from friends and family. It may sound easy, but if you break it down, it’s a little more complicated than that.

Here are a few things you should think about as you’re determining whether to hire professionals or complete the move on your own.

The actual equipment needed to move

If moving yourself, you’ll need to rent a moving truck if you’re moving a full home. On top of that, you’re also going to need to put money into the following items:

-Gas for the moving truck – and, depending on far the move is – multiple fill-ups

-Moving equipment to move all of your heavier items, such as moving straps, ropes, stretch wrap, moving dollies, and furniture pads.

-Packing boxes and supplies to keep your belongings safe

Being sure to have the proper supplies, along with packing away your belongings, avoids any unnecessary damages that may occur in the process.

The time involved with moving yourself

Time doesn’t necessarily equate to a “cost”, but it is valuable, and if you find yourself trying to take on a move by yourself, it may take more time than you’d prefer.

Prior to moving day, you’ll spend time finding boxes and packing supplies before you pack everything away. You’ll also need to organize what is going to the new house and what is getting thrown away. Lastly, depending on what type of vehicle you rent for moving – you might be making multiple trips from your old home to your new one.

Finding moving help

We’ve all heard the joke about asking your friend with a truck to help you move, but if you’re planning on moving a home yourself, you’ll need some help.

Recruiting friends to help move is difficult enough as is, but you’ll also need to pay them in either cash, or food and drinks to keep them happy during the moving process.

The potential for damage and injury

Moving isn’t as easy as it looks, and there’s a reason that moving companies are considered “professionals”. Trying to move heavy items on your own puts you at risk for injury if you aren’t properly trained on moving techniques.

This can also lead to added stress during the move, which creates a miserable experience for everyone.

Why should I hire professional movers?

Considering everything mentioned above, you start to realize doing the move on your own might not be as cheap (or easy!) as it might have seemed.

When you hire professional movers like TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, the old saying “you get what you pay for” has never been more true. We offer a wide-range of professional moving services guaranteed to meet any moving need, and have spent 35 years developing a reputation as leaders in the industry.

With TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, you get:

-Free moving estimates, in-home over the phone, or online

-Packing options and packing supplies for sale

-An in-home walk through with our professional moving teams, followed by a walk-through of your new home so that we know exactly how to plan for your move

And, most importantly – you don’t have to do a thing! Our moving teams strive to handle each and every move with care and treat all of your belongings as if they were our own, saving you the stress and letting you focus on other important things.

If you have an upcoming move, consider hiring TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to get the job done and let us show you why we’ve earned the nickname “Movers Who Care”!

What professional movers can’t move during your next home relocation

TMAT468

Things look a little different right now across our country, but leases still expire and homes are still selling, so moving services will continue to be used as we navigate through the pandemic.

With all the planning that goes into home moving, there’s no question it can be an overwhelming process. From finding professional movers to do the move for you to packing, deciding what is going with you to the next house, picking a moving date, and more – there are no shortage of details to plan..

One area that often gets overlooked is what moving companies aren’t able to move for you. It’s important to know what these items are so come moving day, you’re prepared and not left scrambling to make last-second accommodations.

We’ve compiled a list of items that come up during our moving experiences that we aren’t able to transport.

Gasoline engines or machines

If you’re moving anything that is run on gasoline, such as a lawn mower, grill, smoker, tractor, or moped, please make sure the gasoline is completely emptied out of them before they are loaded onto the truck. Moving teams cannot transport anything with gasoline in it for safety reasons.

Plants or animals

Another safety precaution – anything that falls under the category of anything living, such as pets or plants, cannot be moved by our teams. Prior arrangements should be made for handling their transportation. For tips on how to best move your pet, click here.

Prescription drugs and medications

In order to avoid any emergency situations where you might need access to something that has been packed on the truck, we do not move any types of drugs or medications.

Sentimental items

We do not move cash, jewelry, insurance papers, birth certificates, or any other sentimental items when completing a move. This prevents anything of this nature from getting misplaced or damaged, and saves you the stress of worrying about their transportation.

Perishable food items

We ban anything that is fresh, frozen, or refrigerated from our moving trucks to avoid rotting or spoiling during the move.

We would recommend planning out a few days’ worth of meals leading up to moving day so when you arrive to your new home, you have these items accessible.

Flammable items

Under no circumstances can we move any of the following: propane, paint, car batteries, household cleaners, antifreeze, weed killer, or ammunition. Federal law prohibits the transportation of these items.

For more information on what items your franchise location can and cannot move, contact your local TWO MEN AND TRUCK location and they’ll be happy to assist you with any questions.
