Top 4 tips for ensuring your move day is a success

TMAT219

It’s no secret moving is one of the top stressors in life, just behind death and divorce, and with a move comes endless details to think about as you pack one home and move to the next.

There are plenty of tips and articles walking you through how to eliminate stress and prepare prior to your move – the packing tips, staying organized, moving tips, etc. – but what about in the midst of your move? Despite all of the planning and preparation you might put into a home move, when it comes down to the actual move taking place, there is still a lot that can happen during move day.

We’ve seen a few moves in our day and based off this experience, we’ve come up with a few essential tips to ensure the day of your move goes off without a hitch.

Check out this informative guide on selling your home from Integrity Home Realty.

Have snacks and cash handy to hold you over

As things are getting moved from your house, the ability to enjoy a snack out of the kitchen quickly goes out the window. Have a snack bag ready to hold you or your family over during the move. We also recommend carrying extra cash on you in case you want to order a pizza for everyone.

Keep your house protected

Even though you’re leaving your house and heading to a new one, you still don’t want to cause any unnecessary damages. Use floor runners to protect any floors where movers might be moving in and out, and use padding to protect walls and door frames as furniture goes through. Ask your local office ahead of time if the movers will supply these materials and prepare your home prior to the move taking place.

If you have kids, get them involved

Often an overlooked aspect of home moving, if you have kids, this can be a tough day for them, too. Make sure to get them involved and keep them engaged by giving them tasks to boost their spirits and help them stay out of the way of the movers. For more tips on moving with kids, click here.

Keep a bag of essentials ready for your new home

With all of your items being packed away in boxes, there’s a chance that after a long day of moving, you won’t want to go through everything at your new home. Put together an essentials bag that features things like toothbrushes, chargers, batteries, and anything else you might need to hold you over until you start unpacking. You might also want to get a bag prepared with toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, etc., before the fun of unpacking begins!

We hope your next move goes smoothly and safely! Using these tips along with proper planning and packing ahead of time can work wonders in eliminating unnecessary chaos on the day of your move.

Taking a minute to discuss rogue moving companies

There’s no denying that moving is stressful. Shifting all of your personal belongings to a new home can take an emotional toll as you leave behind a place that is special to you or transition to a new phase of your life.

With all of the emotional factors that come with moving, it’s important the moving company you hire is one you can trust. Time and time again, you hear of nightmare stories involving fraudulent moving companies that wreak havoc for unsuspecting customers.

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, this is what we aim to eliminate. We want to take the unnecessary stresses out of your life during the time of moving so you can focus on what’s important.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK CEO Jon Nobis took time to address this issue and assure our loyal and potential customers that we are a trustworthy brand, and deserving of the nickname “Movers Who Care®”.

What to expect when moving with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK

If you find yourself moving soon, there’s an important decision lingering – move the belongings yourself or hire professional movers?

It’s an age-old question that people have juggled for years, and one that people often struggle to make. There are some common misconceptions about hiring professional movers that often push people to move the belongings themselves, but is it really worth it?

Moving is already stressful enough, but pile on the need to find friends and family to do the heavy lifting with you, rent your own truck, ensure your items are packed away safely so you don’t damage them yourself …  the to-do list can pile up just as quickly as the stress.

The old saying “you get what you pay for” applies to the idea of hiring professional movers, and when you hire TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, you can feel good knowing you’re getting top-notch movers in the industry.

Free moving estimates- in-home or over the phone

Our Customer Service Representatives are ready to assist you in figuring out just what it will take for one of our moving teams to help you and what the cost will look like for your move! The best part of these moving estimates? They’re free.

How much does TWO MEN AND A TRUCK cost?

Each TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving location is independently owned and operated, with each setting their own specific rates for moving. A majority of our franchise moving locations charge hourly for local moving and by weight for a move that is long distance. To find out more, contact the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK location nearest you for a free estimate and costs.

Packing options and supplies

Need packing supplies? We’ve got plenty of them! Need packing done and don’t want to do it yourself? We can help with that, too! Our movers can come out and do all of the packing for you prior to move day, or drop off the proper moving boxes and packing supplies to ensure your items stay organized and safe throughout your move.

An in-home walkthrough with the movers

Prior to your moving team getting to work, they’ll do a walkthrough of your home. This allows them to see the landscape of rooms so they can bring the proper moving materials to keep your belongings safe and secure during the moving process.

This also helps your team know where they’ll put extra protection on doors or walkways, and what furniture needs to be padded and stretch wrapped before loading into the truck.

A walkthrough of your new home location

A necessary step in the moving process is your move team getting to know your new location before they begin unloading your belongings. They’ll want to identify key rooms, like the master bedroom or spare bedroom, so they know what boxes and furniture will belong to each room when unloading.

Final walkthrough of the home and truck

Here your movers will want to go through the home with you to ensure everything is where it needs to go. If something isn’t in the correct spot, be sure to let them know before they leave! You’ll also want to do a final look inside the truck to ensure no items, furniture, or boxes are left on the truck.

Time to leave a review

After each move, our customers receive a customer satisfaction survey emailed to them. We greatly appreciate our customers filling these out and telling us how we did- good and bad! This helps us train and reward our teams accordingly. Reviews left on sites such as Google, Facebook, and Yelp are also greatly appreciated to help spread the word about the move you received with us.

We can tell you all about our moving services and how we can help you, but nothing speaks louder than the words of our own satisfied customers. To hear it directly from the source, check out some of our customer testimonials below.

Use these 4 holiday packing tips to ease your holiday fatigue

tmat118

With the bustling holiday season now behind us, that means the fun decorations and lights must come down and get packed into storage for the next 11 months until it’s time to do it again!

Although it’s not always an enjoyable task (hence why we still see Christmas lights in February!) but with the proper planning and execution, it doesn’t have to be such a burden.

We’ve put together a few quick and helpful tips to make the holiday season clean up a breeze.

Have a plan

Taking down the holiday decorations and getting everything moved and packed can’t be finished in 20 minutes – it takes time and planning to get the job done right and to get those breakable items stored away safe and sound.

Examine your current situation, pick a place to start, and go room-by-room as you take everything down, carefully and efficiently wrapping and packing them away. This will also help when it comes to organizing your belongings in storage.

Boxes, boxes, boxes

There’s no such thing as “too many” boxes, especially around the holidays, and that’s why it’s important to have an abundance on-hand to ensure everything has a place to go.

Boxes will provide enough space to keep everything, and will also make moving items into a closet or storage that much easier and organized. Be sure to label each box so that when next year comes, you can find exactly what you’re looking for!

Put away that extra furniture

Chances are that at some point during the holiday season, you had to get out extra furniture to accommodate for guests during holiday parties and visits. Whether this furniture will be moved into another room, a closet, the garage, or storage – be sure to only move what you can handle.

If there is too much to move or something that is too heavy, give our movers a call – they’re happy to help you move items in your home!

Pack with a purpose

Even more so than normal, packing away holiday items requires extra care and attention to detail, as these are often specialty items that can be fragile or easily broken. Remember to use proper packing supplies like packing paper, tissue paper, and bubble wrap to protect those ornaments and decorations as they go back into boxes. It’s also a good idea to pack ornaments in our specialty dish pack box where there are sections that are perfect for wrapped ornaments.

Always keep in mind, the heavier the items, the smaller the box. Be For additional packing tips from our moving professionals, click here.

Giving back to our communities in 2018

-Written by Erik Sargent

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, while we always focus on our goal of providing industry-leading moving services to our customers, we’re also focused on accomplishing one other important goal– giving back.

This covers a broad spectrum for our brand, and we don’t limit ourselves to how we give back to the communities in which we live and work. Whether it’s through a specific person going above and beyond with how they work – our “Move Heroes” – working with a partner organization to handle a crisis situation, or through our own efforts – we want to give back in as many ways as possible.

With each passing year, we find more and more ways to give back to the communities we operate, and 2018 was our best year yet. As the year comes to a close, we wanted to look back on some of ways we gave back and the “Move Heroes” in our family so we can reflect on the outstanding efforts from everyone involved with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

An alignment in core values led to a working relationship between Convoy of Hope and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®

-Written by Erik Sargent

Making a difference in the world is only obtainable when people come together and use the resources around them, and for the faith-based organization Convoy of Hope, this was the exact mindset that helped it come to fruition.

Convoy of Hope – which is based out of Springfield, Missouri – was founded in 1994 with the plans of making a difference in communities all around the world, mainly by working to feed children through feeding initiatives, community outreaches, and disaster response.

“Most of what we do has a focus on feeding,” said Eric Neubauer, corporate relations director for Convoy of Hope. “Secondarily, the flip-side of that coin is we’ve also been an early responder in times of natural disasters. There was a point in our mission where we felt like responding and being a part of relief efforts was important to who we are and what we did.”

Since the organization has grown over nearly 25 years of operation, Convoy of Hope now has their focus set in six main areas: community events, children’s feeding, disaster services, agriculture, women’s empowerment, and rural compassion.

The number of people reached by Convoy of Hope are staggering when you examine what they’ve been able to do since 1994, which includes 100 million people served, 262 million meals distributed, and 615,000 volunteers mobilized to help children, families, and survivors of disasters. These numbers also include 115 countries served and $805 million worth of food and supplies distributed.

It’s no small task to be on the ground helping at so many different places for so many different causes, but a strong infrastructure allows Convoy of Hope to make it possible.

“Part of what gives us the ability to do that and what makes us so unique is our infrastructure,” Neubauer said. “Think of us like a logistics organization. We have a fleet of semis, we have an international headquarters here in Springfield with a 3,000 square foot building with essential supplies and products. We also have regional warehouses in different parts of the world, including Haiti, Asia, Puerto Rico, and Houston.”

This impressive infrastructure allows Convoy of Hope to adapt on the go to whatever the  disaster situation may need and stay prepared for any situation.

“Because of our logistical capacity and our infrastructure, we are not dependent on partnering with A, B, and C organization when deploying of times of disaster,” Neubauer said. “Because we have our infrastructure, we are at the disaster and supplying what we need for the disaster on our own.”

A partnership based on a common goal

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, finding any and all ways to give back to the communities we operate in and the people we serve has been our goal over the last 30 years.

For Greg Micklos, franchisee of the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Pensacola, Fla., location, this same sentiment was on his mind last year when Hurricane Harvey crashed the shores of the Gulf Coast. The damage was substantial, people needed help, and he knew his moving team and his trucks could be of use. The next step was finding a partner to put these resources to good use.

Micklos had been organizing both the supplies to be donated and also organizing a fleet of trucks to head to Houston when a mutual connection led him to Convoy of Hope.

greg micklos 013“I was involved in Hurricane Floyd and Dennis in 1999 when I was living in North Carolina, I have experienced hurricane devastation myself,” said Micklos. “I knew a lot of people in the Florida area would be coming in and out of disaster areas, and knew we would need some kind of credentials to get into devastation areas. Finding an organization like Convoy of Hope to help us actually get in there and get out without making a scene – we knew they needed supplies, and it was a great fit for us.”

A couple of quick phone calls later, and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and Convoy of Hope had plans in the works to tag-team these hurricane relief efforts.

“When Eric Neubauer from Convoy of Hope and I got together and actually developed a strategic plan together to figure out what we had and what we could do, it just seemed to be a phenomenal fit,” Micklos said.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s resources helped boost the efforts of Convoy of Hope, who was already established in the disaster areas.

“For us, it just makes sense to ask if there is a logistics connection, and if it could radically improve our capacity,” Neubauer said. “People want do something to help, and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK has tons of trucks and people.”

Since Hurricane Harvey, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK has continued to work together with Convoy of Hope where it makes sense, as each organization works hard to make a difference when possible.

Micklos noted that over the last year, he has remained in contact with Convoy of Hope and kept an open dialogue about what has worked in their relief efforts and what hasn’t as they plan to coordinate in the future. With the ability to provide both trucks and man-power on relatively short notice, the two organizations have developed an understanding with one another and are working to build their partnership.

“Our core values align so well,” Micklos said. “We’re all for one, one for all, and we can’t just do it by ourselves. [Founder] Mary Ellen Sheets said it best – ‘all of us are stronger than one of us’, so you look at that and we’re right there with Convoy of Hope sharing the same values.”

Keep yourself prepared with these overlooked moving essentials

TMAT257

There’s so much to consider when working to complete a home move. From planning everything out in advance. Making sure you have all your belongings accounted for, to taking care of bills, cleaning, and so on – it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos.

This understandably creates additional stress around moving day. Organization is the key to eliminating this stress, and while everyone thinks of the actual moving must-haves such as boxes and packing supplies, what about the items that get overlooked?

These overlooked moving essentials are often important items you’ll need as you move into your new home, but can easily get lost in the shuffle on moving day. Thankfully, we know a thing or two of what exactly you’ll need to keep moving day running smoothly!

Plastic Bags

Regardless of what the situation might be – and especially on moving today – there’s always some use for plastic bags. They can cover everything from storing or carrying items to handling trash duty and getting unwanted items out of the way. Keep a small stash handy for whatever need you might have leading up to, and during, moving day.

Batteries

Although it may seem everything is attached to a charger these days, batteries still cover a lot of power duty in a home. Remotes, clocks, and plenty of other appliances still need batteries, and having a fresh new pack will ensure you’re ready to go in your new home.

Cleaning Supplies

Moving can be messy. With people going in and out of your home and maybe even some new items being delivered and opened, there’s a high probability of your new house getting dirty. You may also want to do a thorough cleaning of your new home before you get all moved in and settled. It’s a good idea to have cleaning supplies like cleaning spray, rags and sponges, Clorox wipes, toilet cleaner, and laundry soap readily available.

Moving Checklist

As mentioned above, organization is key to avoid getting overwhelmed on moving day. Develop a detailed plan of how you want attack the moving day process to help prevent any mishaps or mistakes.

Food and Drinks

The physical aspect of home moving shouldn’t be overlooked, which makes the need for food and drinks all the more important on moving day! Keep everyone hydrated with water and sports drinks, and have small snacks around for breaks.

Tool Kit

Whether it’s disassembling or reassembling furniture, fixing something that’s broken, or hanging decor on the walls – you’re going to want a tool-kit handy on moving day.

Toilet Paper/Paper Towels

This may seem obvious, but you wouldn’t want to get to a new home and find yourself in need of paper towels or toilet paper. Keep these handy in a day of the move box!

Markers and Stickers

This plays into the organizational side of things, and using markers and stickers will help you label and keep track of all your belongings as they move from your old home to your new one. It also makes unpacking much easier if the correct boxes and items are placed in their designated spaces within your new home.

These are just some of the important overlooked moving essentials that you should be aware of as you get ready to complete your next home move! For more insightful moving tips to ensure your home move is a breeze, search our company blog or our website.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s Movers for Military program puts essential care items in the hands of veterans

TMAT257

-Written by Erik Sargent

With the month of November upon us and Veteran’s Day just wrapping up, it’s important to recognize the sacrifices our veterans have made for this country, and to help the ones in need.

The unfortunate reality for the brave men and women who fight for this country is that when some of them return home, it’s not always a welcoming time. Many struggle with finding employment or homelessness, creating a harrowing situation.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is a company built around the hard work of many veterans, and we’ve made it a point as a company to help give back to these individuals through our Movers for Military campaign, which many TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises choose to run each fall.

Franchise locations partner with local schools, business, organizations, and shelters to set up collection sites where people can donate essential care items that are delivered to veteran shelters around the community. It’s a good way for us to put our moving resources to use, and allows the community to come together and help those who need it the most.

“I think Movers for Military is a good fit at our franchise because we are located in a community that heavily supports and endorses our troops, both past and present,” said Kayla Emond, marketing coordinator at the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Portland, Maine location. “The program is important to our community because our partner, Preble Street Veterans Housing, serves veterans all over the state of Maine, where there’s nearly 400 a year who face housing insecurity or homelessness. It’s important to not only recognize but also support those who gave so much to protect this country and our freedoms.”

Maine Mariners Collection 3Emond and the Portland franchise held two community events where they set up collection sites this fall, with the first being held at a Maine Mariner’s hockey game, and the other at the local Island Dog Brewing, where there was Halloween party and 20% of all beer sales were donated to the Movers for Military campaign.

It was a great way to get TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s cause out there, and the community really came together to support the program.

“The response we saw about the program was overwhelming,” said Emond. “People loved sharing stories with us about the veterans in their lives and praising us for hosting a program that gives back to veterans. I can’t even tell you how many people came up to us with excitement that they saw our trucks around their neighborhoods.”

For the four TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Southeast Michigan locations – Ann Arbor, Brighton, Brownstown, and Oakland Southwest – they also ran the Movers for Military program this fall, and felt like it was a good fit for their team.

“Both myself and Franchisee Alan Oversmith come from military families, so we are both very passionate about this campaign,” said Charlene Bush, marketing manager for all four TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Southeast Michigan locations. “In addition, we have several veterans that now work at each of our locations as movers or drivers. This campaign is a great way to both honor them and show our appreciation for their service to our country.”

Bush and her locations partnered with the Livingston County Service Agency, Downriver for Veterans, Michigan Ability Partners, and Vets Returning home to run “stuff a truck” events around their communities.

The events were held at two Walmart locations and two Kroger locations, and gave people the chance to stop by and donate their items. It also was a good way for the movers and drivers at the franchises to get involved and help out in the community.

“Our movers and drivers love helping with the different campaigns we run, so I get a ton of support from both management and our frontline staff,” Bush said. “I was very pleased with each campaign and the amount of donations we were able to deliver.”

Movers for Military 7The events received a phenomenal response from the community, and even led to some great stories like that of a young girl who donated her birthday money to buy items that could be donated to veterans, showing just how involved these campaigns can be and the difference they can make.

“I think it is important to participate in these campaigns because it is important to help build and support the community we live and work in, and to be a part of something bigger,” Bush said. “I also feel that people are more apt to trust a company they see giving back, and people tend to do business with people they trust.”
