TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s internal moving service can get you ready for the holiday season

There’s no denying that life is quite a bit different than normal for all of us right now and that will certainly impact the upcoming holiday season.

While the holidays might not look like they normally do, that doesn’t mean they have to stop completely! You can still get your home looking nice and festive for your closest family members or loved ones, and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is able to help with that.

We are known for our traditional home moving services, but we also offer professional in-home moving options, too. This helps take the stress out of lifting that heavy Christmas tree out of storage, rearranging furniture, or lifting those heavy boxes full of decorations up from the basement or out of the garage. We can help you move the entire inside of your home or just a couple of chairs and tables – it’s up to you!

In-home moving is great for those who are:

  • Staging a home
  • Completing home renovations
  • Staging a big party or event
  • Moving a recently purchased large item or appliance such as a piano, gun safe, exercise equipment, etc.
  • Moving yard equipment, furniture, or décor out of shed storage

As always, you’ll receive professionally trained movers who will arrive uniformed and ready to help out while handling your belongings with the highest levels of care as they help you move internally.

Additionally, with the rising concerns over COVID-19, our moving teams are taking extra sanitation and safety precautions to ensure that both our customers and our moving teams stay safe throughout the moving process. This includes the regular sanitation of trucks and equipment, having movers and drivers use hand sanitizer throughout the move, and maintaining a strict social distancing with our team members and customers. If you have any questions about the safety precautions being taken or about the use of masks, please discuss this with your franchise prior to moving day. Learn more about our COVID-19 protocols here.

The differences of moving yourself vs. hiring professionals

TMAT451

One of the biggest decisions you have to make when it’s time to move is whether you’ll do it on your own or hire professional movers.

There is a general misconception around hiring professional movers, you might think it’s expensive and not worth the cost. So instead, many people go about a move on their own and with help from friends and family. It may sound easy, but if you break it down, it’s a little more complicated than that.

Here are a few things you should think about as you’re determining whether to hire professionals or complete the move on your own.

The actual equipment needed to move

If moving yourself, you’ll need to rent a moving truck if you’re moving a full home. On top of that, you’re also going to need to put money into the following items:

-Gas for the moving truck – and, depending on far the move is – multiple fill-ups

-Moving equipment to move all of your heavier items, such as moving straps, ropes, stretch wrap, moving dollies, and furniture pads.

-Packing boxes and supplies to keep your belongings safe

Being sure to have the proper supplies, along with packing away your belongings, avoids any unnecessary damages that may occur in the process.

The time involved with moving yourself

Time doesn’t necessarily equate to a “cost”, but it is valuable, and if you find yourself trying to take on a move by yourself, it may take more time than you’d prefer.

Prior to moving day, you’ll spend time finding boxes and packing supplies before you pack everything away. You’ll also need to organize what is going to the new house and what is getting thrown away. Lastly, depending on what type of vehicle you rent for moving – you might be making multiple trips from your old home to your new one.

Finding moving help

We’ve all heard the joke about asking your friend with a truck to help you move, but if you’re planning on moving a home yourself, you’ll need some help.

Recruiting friends to help move is difficult enough as is, but you’ll also need to pay them in either cash, or food and drinks to keep them happy during the moving process.

The potential for damage and injury

Moving isn’t as easy as it looks, and there’s a reason that moving companies are considered “professionals”. Trying to move heavy items on your own puts you at risk for injury if you aren’t properly trained on moving techniques.

This can also lead to added stress during the move, which creates a miserable experience for everyone.

Why should I hire professional movers?

Considering everything mentioned above, you start to realize doing the move on your own might not be as cheap (or easy!) as it might have seemed.

When you hire professional movers like TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, the old saying “you get what you pay for” has never been more true. We offer a wide-range of professional moving services guaranteed to meet any moving need, and have spent 35 years developing a reputation as leaders in the industry.

Extensive research and investigating can stop customers from falling victim to moving scams

TMAT193

-Written by Erik Sargent

May is National Moving Month and for us here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, it’s time to start getting ready for the busiest moving months of the year.

If you have an upcoming move planned and plan on hiring professional movers, it’s important to do extensive research to make sure you’re getting a legitimate moving service and not paying for a moving scam. Unfortunately, there are plenty of illegal and “scam” movers out there who will appear to be a reputable service, but provide low-quality service and can potentially steal money from customers.

“It is important for consumers to do their research when hiring a professional mover,” said Scott Michael, President & CEO of the American Moving & Storage Association. “Not all websites are accurate, so you need to protect yourself and your possessions by investigating the companies you are considering entrusting with your move.”

Moving scams are on the rise, and one way to prevent falling victim to this is researching online reviews. At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK – the nation’s largest franchised moving company – we’ve worked to develop a strong reputation in the industry for over 30 years, and use the services of third-party review companies to ensure our reviews are legitimate.

Jon-Nobis“The number of Google reviews a brand has makes a significant impact on the customer’s decision-making process, but what most customers don’t know is that some moving companies pay or falsify their online reviews, which is against Google policy,” said Jon Nobis, the CEO of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. “This lack of authenticity in online reviews makes the process of hiring a trustworthy, reliable mover even more difficult for consumers.”

Using online reviews helps to get a feel for what other customers have to say about a business, and you can pick up on positive trends – good or bad – on how the company operates.

While the online reviews are certainly helpful, they are not the final say in how a moving company works. Still, you can use this online research to see what companies consistently have the best and which companies treat their employees with care.

“As a brand, we are laser-focused on transparency and building trust, ensuring that our customer experience is world class,” said Nobis. “Because moving scams are on the rise, we’ve taken these measures up a notch and are committed to further developing our customer service initiatives with the launch of new technology-focused solutions that make booking a move easier for our customers.”

Another area we recommend paying close attention to when deciding on where to a hire professional moving service is with online quote forms.

Various forms of advertisements and data aggregators can give the impression of being a moving service and require personal information, but are just looking for customer info to sell to other companies. It’s important to get a moving quote directly from the company you’re thinking about using.

“It’s important to make sure that you are requesting an online moving quote directly from a moving company that you are intending to work with,” Nobis said. “It can become very frustrating for a customer who believes they are submitting a moving request for a specific company and then three or four moving companies follow up with phone calls and emails. Customers need to be careful during their research phase to ensure they’re only providing their personal information to companies they’re interested in moving with.”

The true cost of moving yourself vs. hiring professional movers

TMAT233

-Written by Erik Sargent

When it comes to home moving, there’s one question that people always tend to ask when deciding between hiring professional moving services and doing it themselves – how much does it cost?

The general misconception with hiring a professional moving company is that it simply costs too much relative to just doing the work yourself, and people will rent a moving truck, grab a couple of friends, and think that all that stands in the way of their home move is a day of hard work. But, have you ever thought of what goes into the cost of moving yourself? It’s not that simple.

If there’s one thing we can tell you for certain, it’s that moving is complex, and there is quite a bit that goes into completing a move yourself.

The actual moving equipment

First and foremost, you’re going to need to rent a moving truck, and will need to get one that is going to be able to handle all of your belongings. However, it’s not as simple as throwing everything onto the truck and transporting it.

You’re going to need to purchase or rent at least some of the following on your own:

-Fuel for the moving truck – potentially multiple times

-Moving equipment that might include: straps, ropes, stretch wrap, moving dollies, furniture pads

-Packing boxes and packing supplies

A whole bunch of time

While this might not necessarily qualify as a “cost”, the time you spend completing a move yourself will add up at some point.

Before you even complete the move, you’re going to need to spend a day or two packing up all of your belongings and trying to figure out how to organize your items. Come moving day, there could be multiple trips involved from your old home to your new home as you transport your belongings.

Damages, stress, and potential injury

There’s a good chance that if you aren’t a professional mover yourself,  trying to move your own belongings will likely result in the damage of some of your items, which can become pricey as you try to repair them down the road. This also means that you might not be trained on the proper moving techniques, which can easily result in injury and future trips to the doctor.

This provides even more stress in the moving process, and creates a miserable experience.

Finding friends and paying them

We know the old joke about finding a friend with a truck to help you move, but when it comes to moving, you don’t want to do it alone. You’re going to need recruit a couple of friends to help you move, which means buying food and drinks to keep them happy all day long while they help you move your home.

TMAT228

The case for hiring professional movers

When you consider all of the information above and what actually goes into moving yourself, it’s not as cheap as you’d think. In terms of hiring professional movers like TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, the old adage “you get what you pay for” has never been more true. We offer a wide-variety of moving services that fit any moving needs, and we’ve developed a reputation as the leaders in the moving industry.

Use these 7 expert tips for your next apartment move

TMAT470

Regardless of the size of your move, or where you’re moving to or from, packing and relocating from one place to the next is still a stressful process!

Apartment moving can present some challenges, too. From finding roommates to learning the rules and regulations of the apartment complex you are moving into, navigating stairs and organizing your belongings into your new, sometimes smaller space, can present a unique set of obstacles.

We’ve developed some helpful tips for our customers to use when moving into a new rental that are sure to make the moving process much easier on you.

Follow along!

Questions, questions, questions!

Be sure to find out everything possible from your landlord or apartment office, and ask questions on anything you feel is important. Everything from what utilities are included to what amenities are available, what perks are included, the best way to pay your rent, etc.

Also – be sure to look at reviews from past tenants to get a feel for what the management is like at your new complex and what you can expect as a new tenant.

Get a head start on packing

One of the biggest  tips we can offer customers is to start your packing early. If you get an early jump on packing for your move, the rest becomes so much easier and will help to alleviate some stress leading up to move day.

Figure out what important items are going with you to your new apartment, what you’ll throw out or donate, and go from there. Also be sure to label your boxes clearly so the movers know where the boxes belong in your new place, and when you begin unpacking at your new home, you know exactly what’s in each box.

For more packing tips, click here.

Purchase renter’s insurance

If you don’t already have renter’s insurance prior to moving into a new apartment, you’ll want to take care of this. Renter’s insurance protects your belongings from unfortunate incidents like burglary or damage from fires or leaks, and will provide you with the peace of mind that your items are safe at all times.

Set up utilities ahead of time

The last thing you want is to show up to your new apartment and not have anything work. More times than not, the water bill is included in an apartment lease, but the rest – gas, electricity, cable, and internet – is up to the tenant.

Be sure to get these services set up well in advance, giving your providers the move in date so services are turned on when you’re ready for them.

Clean up your old place

Although it’s time to say goodbye to your old home, you don’t want to leave it a mess. Going through and doing a thorough cleaning will not only save you from any necessary charges or complaints, but it can also help you spot anything you may have accidentally left behind before the move.

Gather all details of your move

Many apartments have a certain set of guidelines that people must follow when moving into a complex, from figuring out where to park, special move in hours, and even elevator reservations if you’re relocating to a high rise.

Be sure to find out these details from your landlord or apartment office, and also ask about the following: what utilities you need, when to pick up your keys, what elevator regulations are, and when the first rent check is due.

Leave your move to the pros!

Save yourself the hassle of moving your belongings – call us at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to handle it for you! We’re the go-to source for apartment movers, and we aim to take the stress out of moving, and have professionally- trained, courteous movers ready to make your move a breeze. We‘re experienced in figuring out all of the important details required for an apartment move, and will have you settled in your new place in no time.
