TWO MEN AND A TRUCK core values help to shape the identity of the brand

A TWO MEN AND A TRUCK mover with customers

It was in the ‘80s when TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Founder Mary Ellen Sheets began developing a vision for her small, local moving company.

Moving is a tough industry, and she wanted to build a brand that separated itself from the competition – not just with the quality of the service, but with the quality of customer care involved with each move. She envisioned TWO MEN AND A TRUCK customer service being different than the rest, a company people could trust with their belongings and a company that was based on just doing the right thing.

Almost 40 years later, this message still resonates throughout each one of our franchises with our set of company core values. These core values aren’t just words plastered on posters – they’re a mindset that all team members live daily. These six TWO MEN AND A TRUCK core values include:

  • THE GRANDMA RULE®
  • Care
  • Inclusion
  • Be Your Best and Have Fun
  • Giving Back to the Community
  • Integrity

This group is highlighted by THE GRANDMA RULE – which means to treat everyone the way we’d want our own grandma to be treated – but all of them hold equal importance in shaping who we are as a brand.

Watch the six videos below to learn about each and what they stand for!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s Movers for Military® program focuses on helping veterans in need

As the country prepares to celebrate Veteran’s Day later this week and honor the brave men and women who have served this country, so to will TWO MEN AND ATRUCK®, as we are a company who has been greatly impacted by veterans since our very early beginnings.

Throughout all levels of our brand, you’ll find a strong presence of veterans working with us to help us move people forward. From movers and drivers all the way up to franchisees and team members at our Michigan Support Center, we’re extremely proud of the veteran presence within our teams. While hiring and promoting veteran team members is a big part of what we do to give back to the veteran community, we also developed our own program to help give back to their community called Movers for Military®.

This was designed for our franchises to collect, donate, and deliver essential care items to veterans in their community who are in need. Local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises will partner with businesses and organizations near them to set up collection sites for the public to drop of donations, and our team will deliver them to shelters in the area.

“We run this program every fall because many of us on our team have come from a military family, have served or we have veterans that currently work or have worked for us in the past.  It feels like a natural fit,” said Charlene Bush, a multi-unit marketing manager within the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise network. “Everyone [at our locations] gets behind this campaign, including our communities.  It’s been a great experience and a campaign that we are all really proud to support.”

Franchises often align well with Movers for Military, especially when they have a large amount of veterans working within their teams, and it creates a seamless transition for running the program.

“We have multiple managers, movers and drivers, our director of operations, and staff spouses/family that are veterans or active-duty military,” said Amanda Wokal, another multi-unit marketing manager for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. “We find it important to give back to those who have sacrificed their lives to protect our country and unfortunately in Dallas, there are way too many veterans living on the streets without access to the necessary care they deserve.”

This campaign is a great opportunity for members of our frontline staff to get out in the community and partner with them to make a difference. The break from the normal day-to-day job is welcomed by our movers and drivers, and they love helping out and making life a little better for our nation’s veterans.

“I believe it’s impactful for our brand because we have franchisees, managers, CSR’s, movers and drivers who work for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK that have served in some branch of the military,” Bush said. “It’s a great way to honor their and honor the brave men and women in our communities who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.”

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises give back to their communities through fall cause programs

As we wrap up the summer season and head into fall, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s efforts to give back to the community are ramping up.

This is an ongoing mission for our company throughout the year to do our part in giving back, but the fall season is an especially prudent time for participation in our fall cause campaigns. Our founder, Mary Ellen Sheets, made giving back to our local communities a top priority for our franchises, and this mission has continued since the mid-1980s.

In addition to our four, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK branded fall campaigns, we also have great relationships with organizations such as Cheeriodicals and Convoy of Hope. We work year-round with these organizations to donate our resources to aid in their missions. At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, donating our resources to such great causes is an effort our team is especially passionate about.

Find out more below about the four fall campaigns our franchises run in their local communities each year.

Movers for Meals®

The goal is to support families in the community that face hunger by partnering with schools, businesses, and other organizations. These organizations gather and deliver non-perishable food items to food pantries and local shelters that will then help support people within the community that are in need. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK assists with this process by delivering these items to food banks for those in need.

Movers for Mutts®

This is a program created by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK in order to help local animal shelters or organizations who care for and foster stray animals. This program is hosted each fall and partners with local businesses, schools, and organizations to collect food, toys, and other essential items pets may need while waiting for their forever homes.

Movers for Military®

We also believe it’s important to give back to the brave men and women who have served this country. Local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations partner with schools, businesses, and veteran’ shelters to collect essential care items each fall and deliver them to veteran’s shelters the week of Veteran’s Day. The Movers for Military® program helps care for the brave veterans that have fought for our freedoms.

Truckload of Warmth®

This program was made to support local shelters by providing warm clothing to those in need. This includes new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and anything needed to stay warm. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK partners with local schools, businesses, and organizations to collect these essential items each fall. Next, they are donated to the local homeless shelters.

Giving back to our communities is a mission we don’t take lightly and we hope to inspire others to do their part in giving back as well!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises give back through branded campaigns to their local communities during the fall season

It’s hard to believe, but somehow, September has already arrived. Summer is coming to a close, fall is right around the corner, and that signals a major movement for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand: giving back to our communities over the next few months!

While this is an ongoing effort throughout the year, the fall season is a particularly busy time for us as we give back to local organizations through our four, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK fall cause campaigns. These fall campaigns are great ways for our franchises to give back through different avenues which are important to them and their teams. Our founder, Mary Ellen Sheets, made it a point from day one that giving back in the areas we work and live would be a top priority for our franchises, and we’ve continued to live out this mission since the mid-1980s.

On top of our four fall campaigns, we’ve also developed meaningful and impactful relationships with organizations like Convoy of Hope and Cheeriodicals, who we work with year-round as we donate our resources to help with their individual missions.

Below, you can learn a little about each of our four call cause campaigns and what they stand for. If you want to get involved with these in your area, click here to use our franchise locator and find the location closest to you and contact them directly!

Annual Movers for Moms® campaign underway to help moms in need this Mother’s Day

Like so many things effected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, our annual Movers for Moms® campaign was forced to take a step back as community gatherings were halted to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

While some of our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations were still able to assist in small ways, it wasn’t to the scale we’d normally operate. This spring, however, we are slowly building back up and finding new alternatives to run Movers for Moms in a safer way around our communities.

Movers for Moms is a campaign created by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK to give back to moms in need each Mother’s Day. MEN AND A TRUCK locations nationwide team up with local business, organizations, schools, and community partners to collect essential care items which are donated to local women’s and family shelters leading up to Mother’s Day weekend.

“It’s a great way to get out and show we care about the community, and a great way to let people know that we do more than just moving,” said Amy O’Brien, marketing and recruiting manager for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Cleveland location. “It’s always amazing to see the joy on volunteers’ faces when we make the big delivery before Mother’s Day.”

How Movers for Moms® works

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations partner with organizations such as schools, stores, banks, and more in their community to setup collection sites for the essential care items needed most by their recipient shelters. Using our specialized Movers for Moms boxes, collection sites are setup around the community and events are held to encourage the donation of items. Due to COVID-19 restrictions this year, many of these events are limited, but we still have boxes set up for people to donate on their own.

Items which are encouraged for donation include things such as basic clothing, shampoos and conditioners, pillows, blankets, soaps, hair styling products, and more. Once all items are collected, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving teams deliver them to the shelters in their area.

See how our 2019 Movers for Moms campaign went in the video below!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK partners with First Book to provide books for organizations that support educational equality for children in need

FirstBook-SG-Mar2021

It’s hard to list every way in which COVID-19 has affected our world, but one impact has certainly been on education and schooling for children.

With many schools going virtual or limiting in-person attendance, new challenges have been created for children in low-income communities who don’t have the same access to resources as their more affluent peers, and this can create barriers to learning.

This is why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with First Book.

First Book is building a path out of poverty for children in need through educational equity, ensuring equal access to quality education. They have numerous ways they work to help kids in need improve their education and we can’t wait to join forces with them while using our resources to support this great cause.

As part of our Career Move Month campaign in April – a program we designed to fill open positions in our franchises across the country – we will be donating copies of the children’s book When Grandma Gives You A Lemon Tree for each employee hired during this time.

“First Book believes education is the best path out of poverty for kids in need and providing meaningful books is one step to support these kids,” said Chief Talent Officer Sara Bennett. “When Grandma Gives You a Lemon Tree illustrates many important life lessons, including using creativity, patience and hard work to turn an unwanted gift into a blessing for many. This message aligns beautifully with our company’s core purpose, to move people forward.”

Twenty-five TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises have signed up to donate 100 books each and deliver books to organizations in their communities. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s corporate office will also donate five books for each hire these franchise make during this time frame.

Together, we’re looking to donate at least 5,000 copies of When Grandma Gives You A Lemon Tree to organizations supporting the education of children in need. This effort aims to make an impact during the annual summer learning gap for children whose learning may have been impacted by COVID-19.

Stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram channels for more details on this and be sure to visit First Book’s website and follow them on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram channels for more information.

A similar set of core values helped foster a long-term partnership between TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and Cheeriodicals

Since the beginning here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, our focus has been on more than just moving – it’s been about giving back in any way we can.

Founder Mary Ellen Sheets donated her first $1,000 in profit to 10 local charities, and since then, we’ve continued working on new ways to give back to the communities where our franchises operate. In more recent years, we’ve partnered with Cheeriodicals as a delivery partner for their amazing efforts nationwide.

Cheeriodicals is an organization that works all across the United States to deliver their patented “boxes of cheer” to children’s hospitals and veteran’s hospitals. The goal is simple: to brighten up the days of patients in these hospitals, even just for a little bit.

The team at Cheeriodicals began working with a few local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises to help with the transportation of these boxes and before long, our entire brand was on board with the Cheeriodicals mission, setting up events to use our trucks and resources to help transport these boxes of cheer in all corners of the country.

Watch the video above to learn more about this partnership. We’re thrilled for the future and what we’re able to do working with Cheeriodicals!

Movers for Military® allows TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises to provide most-needed essentials for local veterans

Veteran’s Day is later this week and here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we prioritize the annual recognition of the incredible efforts made by the brave veterans of this country.

We believe strongly in this and do our best to our best to ensure they receive the proper celebration when possible. However, many veterans don’t come home to celebration at all and instead, find themselves in unfortunate situations filled with hardships after their time in the military has ended.

As a company who is committed to giving back to the community – and with the struggles that veterans face when returning to normal life – we used this inspiration to form one of our branded campaigns, Movers for Military.

This was designed by us with a focus on our franchises working within their communities to collect and deliver essential care items to veterans who need them most. Franchises partner with local organizations to set up collection sites where members of the community can drop off these essential care items, which are later delivered and donated to veteran’s shelters.

“Any time we can help or assist veteran or service members, it is a good thing,” said Jeff Walker, a veteran and franchisee at our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Colorado Springs location. “It is a small way to serve our country.”

With a number of franchise locations employing veteran staff members in a variety of positions, it’s a natural fit for our frontline staff members as they work to give back during the fall season.

“Both myself and Franchisee Alan Oversmith come from military families, so we are both very passionate about this campaign,” said Charlene Bush, marketing manager for all four TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Southeast Michigan and Boston locations. “In addition, we have several veterans that now work at each of our locations as movers or drivers. This campaign is a great way to both honor them and show our appreciation for their service to our country.”

This campaign is a great opportunity for members of our frontline staff to get out in the community and partner with them to make a difference. The break from the normal day-to-day job is welcomed by our movers and drivers, and they love helping out and making life a little better for our veterans.

“Our movers and drivers love helping with the different campaigns we run, so I get a ton of support from both management and our frontline staff,” Bush said. “I was very pleased with each campaign and the amount of donations we were able to deliver.”

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises use branded campaigns to give back to their favorite organizations locally

TMT 2019 Truckload

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Founder Mary Ellen Sheets had a vision when she first started this brand, one that has stuck with us since day one and has shaped who we are.

Not only were we going to be the most reliable movers nationwide – we were going to make an impact in our communities.. Mary Ellen donated her first $1,000 in profit to 10 different charities in the greater Lansing, Mich., area where TWO MEN AND A TRUCK all began. Since that day, our brand has continued with that commitment, since donating more than $3 million to organizations who support those who need it most.

We’ve also partnered with many great organizations over the years – like Convoy of Hope and Cheeriodicals – but along the way, we’ve decided to create our own branded programs to give back.

There are four fall campaigns and our franchises choose one to run in their local communities:

Movers for Military: A fall collection drive created to show support for the brave men and women who sacrificed to protect our freedoms.

Movers for Meals: Created to support families in the community facing hunger by partnering with schools, business, food pantries, and local shelters or food banks to collect non-perishable food items.

Movers for Mutts: Created to raise donations for local shelters or organizations who care for and foster stray animals.

Truckload of Warmth: A collection drive for new and gently used winter clothing, such as coats, hats, gloves, and scarves.

“We really are the ‘Movers Who Care®’,” Bush said. “We need to live that out, and it needs to be a part of our culture. I believe when we run these campaigns, it builds trust within an organization, as well as in the community, when TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is helping people and lending support.”

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises use resources to give back amid COVID-19 crisis

TMATAUGUST162

We’re living in tough, uncertain times right now. The spread of COVID-19 has halted our everyday activities and way of life. While many of us remain optimistic and practice social distancing while working to stop the spread of the virus, others are still in need of help.

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, we’ve been engaged in our communities by working within the guidelines set by the CDC, as well as local, state, and federal governments. Our moving teams are still operating to the extent they are able and conducting moves in some capacity, focusing primarily on customers who absolutely have to move during this time.

While we are doing our part in taking all necessary safety and sanitation precautions with our team members and our moving trucks, we’re also working hard to give back and donate our services to those who need it most.
