There’s never a bad scenario to save some money, right? We know the biggest concern people have with hiring professional movers can be the cost, so we’ve developed a few easy tips for you to keep in mind for your next move.

The most important factor when it comes to saving money during the moving process is time. Local moves are generally charged by the hour, so anything you can do to cut down on the time your movers are there will save you money in the long run.

Take a look at some of our helpful tips for preparing and saving time and money on your move!

Be honest with your moving company

It’s extremely important to be as accurate as possible when setting up a move with a professional moving company. You may think leaving out a detail or two about what you need moved is ok when getting your estimate and booking a move, but in the end, it could end up causing your move to take longer and cost more than your estimate outlined.

When the moving company is working with you to complete your moving estimate, be as accurate as possible with their team so they can accurately prepare for your move. Failing to mention certain items or belongings (like large objects), how many boxes you have, or how big your home actually is may add more time to the move as they make adjustments on the day of.

Disassemble all furniture and beds

While not necessary – movers at most of our locations can disassemble and reassemble furniture and beds for you – however this will save you time if you do it on your own. Generally, items like this need to be disassembled before being loaded onto the truck, so if you are able to do it before the moving team arrives, that is less time they’ll spend doing it at your home.

Pack efficiently

Packing is vital to any home move, and if your items are packed upon the arrival of your moving team, they can begin loading the truck immediately.

If you need help with packing, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving teams are professionally trained to pack your belongings and can pack as little or as much as you’d like! Or, if you want to pack on your own, we offer a full line of moving boxes and packing supplies that will help with any move.

Organize all belongings

Another way to significantly cut down on time is by organizing all of your belongings in a central location. This can be somewhere like the living room or the garage, but having one central location will cut down on the time the movers have to spend navigating through your home. An easily accessible area will allow them to quickly work back and forth between the moving truck and your home.

Be prepared

Above all else, be prepared. Many of our frontline team members have mentioned that nothing beats good planning when it comes to moving day, and doing so will eliminate any last minute change ups, eliminate the need to add more time, and again – save you money! Try using one of our moving checklists or our movetrac app to help with preparation.
