If you’re looking for a fun DIY Halloween costume, we’ve got you covered! Pick up a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK box and follow these tips for creating the perfect costume — or “boxtume”, as we like to call it.

Lightning McQueen Boxtume

This costume is perfect for the Cars-loving kid in your life. Check out our tutorial on how to make Lightning McQueen, or simply switch out the paint color to make Sandy or Mater.

What you’ll need:

  • TWO MEN AND A TRUCK medium box
  • Red paint
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Box cutter
  • Ribbon
  • Paper plates
  • Poster board
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes

Step 1: Assemble the box, loosely taping the top and bottom shut. Paint outside with red paint.

Step 2: Once the paint has dried, remove tape. Touch up paint as needed. Carefully use a box cutter or scissors to remove bottom four folds, as well as three from the top. Leave one fold for the windshield at the front of the costume.

Step 3: Use scissors to poke a hole on both sides of the windshield and on the back of the box. Measure ribbon to your liking for shoulder straps. Tie knots in both ends of the ribbon and push through holes.

Step 4: Time for decals! To make tires, paint four paper plates black and let dry. On a poster board, sketch out two emblems for the sides, as well as the mouth and eye shapes. Use a black marker to add teeth, and silver paint to add details to the tires. Once paint is dried and each piece is cut out, use hot glue to attach each to your boxtume. Use hot glue to place googly-eyes on front windshield.

Finish the boxtume off with a “IM SPEED” license plate, and you’re good to go!
