Break out the hot glue gun, we’re bringing you another edition of DIY Valentine’s Day crafts made using upcycled cardboard boxes. Rather than using store bought decorations, creating your own can offer you a fun evening while making your décor more personal.
Valentine’s Day dessert toppers
Dress up dessert by creating heart shaped toppers. We chose to go with cupcakes, but they’ll work great with almost any treat!
Supplies:
Cardboard
Craft paper
Toothpicks or small dowel rod
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Step 1: Cut out cardboard hearts. Tip: If you have a heart shaped cookie cutter, use it as a stencil for perfect heart shapes.
Step 2: Cover the cardboard in craft paper. We selected a variety of designs to make our cupcakes more playful.
Step 3: Push your toothpick into the bottom of the cardboard heart. You may need a small amount of hot glue to secure it in place.
Step 4: Pop them into the tops of your dessert and enjoy!
Cardboard heart
This cardboard heart décor is perfect to display in a window or above your dining room table. The best part is this takes less than 20 minutes to make!
Supplies:
Cardboard
Yarn or ribbon
Craft paper
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Step 1: Cut out two large hearts from a cardboard box.
Step 2: Fold each heart in half to form a crease down the center, giving you four outward half-heart shapes. Use a hot glue gun to secure the two pieces together at the back of each fold.
Step 3: Time to be creative! Cover the hearts in craft paper of your choice.
Step 4: Secure ribbon or yarn around the heart and hang in your home!
DIY photo frame
Not only is this photo frame extremely easy and cute, but it can double as a present for a loved one!
Supplies:
Cardboard
Craft paper
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Step 1: Begin by drawing a 4in. X 6in. square onto cardboard. Draw a second 6in. X 8in. square around the first square. Cut both of them out.
Step 2: On a new piece of cardboard, cut a second 6in. X 8in. square. You should have two pieces cut, one which should have a 4in. X 6in. cut out to place your photo in. Glue these pieces together.
Step 3: Decorate the front of your frame however you wish! We simply used leftover craft paper from our earlier projects, but the options are endless.
Step 4: Secure the cut out 4in. X 6in. piece of cardboard to the back of the frame so it will stand up properly when displayed. If you would like to hang your frame, use a hot glue gun to secure a ribbon on the back of your frame.
Step 5: Place a photo in your frame and boom, you’re done!
