House from the movie “Up”

If you are looking for a unique costume this Halloween, you’ve found it. We paired a bunch of balloons with a large box to create the house from the popular Disney Pixar film, “Up”. If you have a group who will be going together, you can play off of this theme and dress others up as characters from the film.UP House Boxtume

  • 1 Large box
  • Craft paint in variety of colors
  • Paint brushes or craft sponge brushes
  • Ribbon
  • Multicolored balloons
  • Box cutter or scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Tape
  • Stapler
  • Markers
  • Elastic or string

Step 1: Use a box cutter to remove the flaps from both the top and the bottom of your box.UP costume 4

Step 2: Use your pencil and ruler to section off the different areas that will need to be painted. You can also draw out your windows and door at this time to making painting easier.

Step 3: Using craft paint, begin painting your house. We used an image of the Up house for reference. Once the paint is fully dry, use markers to draw the details on the house such as the lines of the siding, roof, and door knob.

Step 4: Use one of the removed box flaps and attach it to the front of your box with a hot glue gun to act as the roof of the house. Lean the flap slightly toward your body to replicate the look of a roof.

Step 5: Next cut a triangle with extended bottom edges to become the top right yellow portion of the house. Cut a strip of cardboard from the leftover flaps and fold it in half to create the roof for this section.

Step 6: Repeat step 3 a second time but much smaller to create the top left space of the house. Hot glue this to the left side of the roof.

Step 7: Cut one rectangle panel from a leftover box flap and trifold it. This will become the front green area of the house. Glue the panel to the bottom right of the house. Then attach the yellow portion of the house you created in step 3 on top of this.

Step 8: Use a stapler to attach elastic to the front and back of the box to rest your costume comfortably over your shoulders.

Step 9: Lastly, attach a bundle of helium filled balloons to the back and off you go!

Presidential Candidate Stand

Get crafty this season with old moving boxes

Written by Claire Schneider

Thanksgiving has passed, and now it’s time to put holiday cheer into full effect! One of my favorite things about Christmas is decorating our home and warming it up with endless amounts of the spirit of the season. Our team at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has come up with three festive ways to use your old moving boxes in ways that will not only be fun to create with your family but will also be conversation starters with visitors and guests.

Gingerbread house

The Christmas season would not be complete without building a classic gingerbread house. Instead of making one from a kit, why not make a one out of your old moving boxes? This is a traditional yet whimsical design item for your home that will undoubtedly be a statement piece. You could use the house to disguise a dog kennel, hide presents, house your Elf on the Shelf for the night, or it can even be the main centerpiece for the Holiday Express train. The options are endless.

gingerbreadhouseHere’s what you need to build you gingerbread house:

  • 1 wardrobe box
  • 1 dish pack
  • 1 medium box
  • Paint in a variety of colors
  • Packing tape
  • Hot glue gun
  • Batting
  • Box cutter

To start, I cut out the frame of the house using the wardrobe and dish pack boxes. I used the dish pack for the roof and the wardrobe box for the sides making sure to cut out a door on one of the sides. Next, I took my two roof pieces and painted three draped lines on each one to add some character. Then I taped the sides and roof pieces together on the inside of the house using packing tape. Next, I cut out the batting to look like snow and glued that to the edges. The nice thing about this part is I didn’t have to worry about cutting my edges perfectly straight; edges have the appearance to line up flawlessly since it is covered.

Next, I used my medium box to cut out the wreath, candy canes, and gum drop pieces. Finally I painted and glued them to the house for a festive look.

Name tags

Chrsitmas tagsInstead of using the same name tags on your gifts each year, get creative and assemble your own unique ones! This is a very simple and achievable craft which will make your friends and family feel special this holiday season.

Items needed:

  • 1 medium box (depending on how many tags you plan to make)
  • Paint
  • Festive ribbon
  • Box cutter

For the shapes of the tags, I looked up Christmas patterns and printed out my top three. I then traced them on the box and carefully cut them out. Next, I painted them and added a ribbon to the top. Last, use the back to write the recipient’s name or even a cheery note.

Card holder

card holderOver the years I’ve thought I should get a card holder but never found one that I truly liked enough to purchase. So this year I decided to make my own out of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® boxes.

Here’s what I used:

  • 1 dish pack box
  • Burlap
  • Paint
  • Ribbon
  • Box cutter
  • Hot glue gun

For my card holder I decided I wanted to have a more vertical orientation, so the dish pack box was the perfect option for me. Next, I cut out a 12” x 24” section of the box. With the burlap I purchased at my local craft store, I cut out a rectangle a few inches longer and wider than the cardboard piece. Then I wrapped it around the cardboard and glued the edges. Now that I had my background, I then stenciled my holiday message. Since it was going to hold the holiday cards I will receive, I decided to go with “Season’s Greetings”. Last, I attached red ribbon in a crisscross fashion where I will clip on the cards as I receive them.

I hope these festive crafts gave you a few fun ideas on how to recycle your old moving boxes this holiday season. Visit our Pinterest page for more holiday inspiration!

Recycle your TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® moving boxes with these fun tips

Written by Claire Schneider

You’ve just moved and now you have multiple moving boxes scattered around your home. You don’t want to toss them all away, but also don’t want them living in your garage for years, taking up space. The good news is TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® specialty moving boxes can be reused for many different home projects. Here are just a few!

Day of the Move box/car washing kit

day of the move boxTWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s Day of the Move Box is perfect for keeping essential items and clothes for the day/night handy during your move. You will be exhausted after the move, and when it’s time to get ready for bed, you won’t want to dig through multiple boxes.

This time of year it’s finally getting nice outside and time to park your car in the driveway and give it a wash. Our Day of the Move Box is great for keeping your car washing items all in one spot. The Day of the Move Box makes it easy to grab your car washing essentials and you don’t have to worry about the cardboard getting wet if you waterproof the box.

Dish Pack Kit/wrapping station

dishpack kitOur Dish Pack Kit is the strongest box available and is ideal for packing fragile items such as china and other kitchen essentials. The cardboard inserts create cubbies that are excellent for keeping the items safe and secure during the move.

After your move, the Dish Pack Kit can easily be reused as a wrapping station. Since the summer months are an ideal time for parties, whether its graduation, baby showers, children’s birthdays, or weddings, make sure you’re organized by creating a wrapping station you can pull out when needed for access to wrapping paper, tape, scissors, and decorative bows and ribbon. This is a perfect way to keep all wrapping essentials in one spot.

Wardrobe Box/storage organizer

wardrobe boxThe TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Wardrobe Box allows clothes to be transported on their hangers by having a metal bar along top of the box to hang clothing.

Recycle your Wardrobe Box and use it to store your out-of-season clothes. A waterproofed wardrobe box is perfect for storing your winter items in the offseason. You can place it in your basement and waterproofing it allows you to be worry-free in case of flooding. You can hang coats, hats, gloves, and scarves and place your boots at the bottom. Seal up the box and they will be safe and waiting for you come next winter.

The Wardrobe Box can also help keep your garage free of clutter this summer. Hang your towels after a day at the pool or running through sprinklers, and baseball gloves or bats after a weekend of baseball tournaments. The box is also handy at keeping your sports balls from rolling under your parked cars. Your kids can just run into the garage and easily grab what they’re looking for.

Truckie’s Treasure Chest

Truckie's Treasure ChestOur Truckie’s Treasure Chest is a unique box designed for kids to pack their own items. The box is easy to carry and can be personalized.

Not only is Truckie’s Treasure Chest useful for keeping kids’ belongings close and safe during the move, but it is also convenient when traveling with pets. You can keep your pet’s necessities in one, easy-to-carry spot. Just place leashes, bowls, treats, and any favorite toys in the box and you’re good to go!
