Movers for Moms® 2015: Moving moms forward this Mother’s Day

Written by Nicole Harrison

This is my favorite time of year to work for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. Exciting things happen from March to May when Movers for Moms® brings individuals across the country together. Movers for Moms® is a program seeking to make life easier for at-risk women who are lead to stay in shelters on Mother’s Day as a result of domestic violence or homelessness.

Each year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations across the country collect donations for women and deliver the items to local women’s and family shelters on or just before Mother’s Day. Each franchise location partners with local shelters, schools, and community organizations to collect items to make Mother’s Day special for moms in need. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations collect donations from mid-March through the weekend of Mother’s Day.Movers for moms

Movers for Moms® is an initiative created by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® eight years ago to provide moms who need it most with a little something to brighten their holiday. Each TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® location participates in the program — that means more than 250 franchises are working together and supporting hundreds of shelters across the 39 states in which we are present!

Movers for Moms® 2015 is well underway! We have high expectations to make this year the most successful one yet and an overall goal of collecting and delivering more than 250,000 items to moms across the country. If you have any questions about Movers for Moms® or want to get involved, check out the frequently asked questions below.

Why does TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® celebrate mothers?

We believe every mother deserves a gift and a moment of reverence on Mother’s Day, no matter what their situation is. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has women in key leadership roles across the country — some of the most successful franchisees are mothers. Movers for Moms® is just one way we can show our support to mothers everywhere, despite their current circumstances.

M4M22014’s results

Last year was a record-breaking year. More than 220,000 items were collected and donated to shelters across the country. With your help, this spring, we hope to surpass last year’s numbers and collect even more donations. Last year, Movers for Moms® partnered with more than 400 collection partner sites such as elementary schools, daycare centers and community collection sites across the U.S.

Help us make this year even bigger! There are numerous women living in shelters that deserve to be celebrated this Mother’s Day!

Helping America fight cancer

Written by Nicole Harrison

Cancer affects almost everyone. Most likely, you know a cancer survivor, someone who lost their battle to cancer, or someone who is currently battling cancer. The American Cancer Society works day in and day out, saving lives to create a world where cancer affects less people. ACS’s mission is to dedicate time in minimizing the cancer footprint through research, service, and educating the public.

Giving back to the community is a core value near and dear to our hearts. In addition to our efforts to give back to the local communities we serve, each year the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® corporate office follows in Founder Mary Ellen Sheets’ footsteps in giving back to the community by donating 10 cents of each move to the American Cancer Society. This partnership began in 2000, allowing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®/INTERNATIONAL, Inc. to make significant contributions to research and resources in the fight against cancer for more than a decade.

“I’m proud to be a supporter of ACS. This dreadful disease has impacted so many – DSC_0052family, friends, and co-workers. We won’t give up the fight,” said company Founder Mary Ellen Sheets.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is proud to be one of ACS’s millions of supporters. In 2014, we donated a total of $45,315 to the American Cancer Society, exceeding 2013’s donations by more than $2,200. Since the partnership first rolled out in 2000, we have donated over $470,000 to the cause.

On Tuesday, March 17, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® presented the American Cancer Society a check of $45,315.40.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® strives to move people forward in every area of their lives, especially toward recovery. We contribute part of our donations at the local level with the Road to Recovery program, Relay for Life, and Making Strides against Breast Cancer. The Road to Recovery offers transportation to treatment centers for individuals who cannot take themselves and is supplied with volunteer drivers who act as comfort and support. Each year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®/INTERNATIONAL, Inc. employees walk in the Lansing, Mich., Making Strides DSC_0053
against Breast Cancer event, promoting awareness for the most common cancer found in women.

In 2015, we hope to continue surpassing donations from past years. We are planning to have a record-breaking year this year! We love our partnership with the American cancer Society and helping America fight cancer.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® lives Giving Back to the Community core value

Written by Lindsay Dow

Giving back to the community is where our hearts lie. So much in fact, that we not only developed one charitable program to support those in need, we created FIVE. One national program that every franchise in our 38 states run during the spring months, and four optional programs our franchises can run locally during the fall season.

Each of these programs consist of the same concept: give back to a specific group of people in need, in our local communities.

Being the Movers Who Care®, and having access to critical resources such as movers to do the heavy lifting, and trucks to do the hauling, it just makes sense!

Here’s what we do:

Movers for momsMovers for Moms®: Our national program that runs each spring, from March to May. This program gives back to mothers in need! Franchises partner with local businesses, organizations, and schools to collect essential care items for mothers living in homeless or domestic abuse shelters locally. Items collected depend on what the shelters need, however they often range from soaps and shampoos, to child care necessities.

398748_MoversforMeals_FinalMovers for Meals: This food collection effort runs each fall and collects food for local pantries and homeless shelters. It is coordinated the same way as our Movers for Moms® collection. Franchises partner with local businesses, organizations, and schools for a specific period of time, sort, box, and deliver all items to their recipient partner.

PrintMovers for Military: We are proud to give back to our veterans and local military families! This program is run in local markets and franchises partner with schools, businesses, and organizations to collect essential, everyday items Veteran’s need most. This program runs each fall, and donations are delivered to homeless Veteran’s shelters and families in need around the                                                 time of Veteran’s Day.

398748_MoversforMutts_FinalMovers for Mutts: We also care about our furry friends. When franchises run this program each fall, they partner with local pet shops, businesses, and schools to collect items shelters need most to care for homeless animals.

PrintTruckload of Warmth: This program is popular among the cold-weather states! This fall program entails collecting warm, new and gently-used clothing for homeless shelters and rescue missions locally. Franchises partner with the community and deliver these items to the recipient shelters just in time for the cold weather to hit.

M4M2

In 2014, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® was proud to deliver more than 220,000 items to mothers in need across the country through the Movers for Moms effort! The four fall charitable programs collected thousands of items for Veterans, pets, and those in need around the country!

We can’t wait to kick off the Movers for Moms® program in March! If you’re interested in becoming a collection partner, please visit twomenandatruck.com to reach out to the franchise closest to you. Or, email movers4moms@twomen.com.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® helping families in need this holiday season

Written by Claire Schneider

Giving back to the community is not only a Core Value we have posted on our walls, but a way of life at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®. It started back when our founder, Mary Ellen Sheets, decided to donate her $1,000 of profit to 10 different local charities her first year in business. Since then we’ve continued looking for ways to give back to the communities in which we work and play. Not only do we give back to local charities, donate moves, and give 10 cents of every to the American Cancer Society, we also have developed five programs unique to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®.

Eight years ago Movers for Moms® was created to give back to local mothers in need on Mother’s Day. After seeing tremendous success with the program, we decided to develop additional programs to help families, veterans, and pets in need during the fall and holiday season.

Movers for Military

PrintVeteran’s Day is a time to honor the courageous men and women who have proudly served our country. Unfortunately many veterans are experiencing tough times and need the aid of local shelters and organizations to get back on their feet. As the “Movers Who Care®”, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® aims to provide critical assistance to local veterans in crisis with a program called Movers for Military – an effort to collect essential items that will be delivered to veterans living at local shelters during Veteran’s Day.

Local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations partner with schools, businesses, and veterans’ shelters to begin collecting essential care items each fall and deliver them to the shelters the week of Veteran’s Day, November 11.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is committed to the communities it is privileged to serve. Through the Movers for Military program, we hope to provide critical support to the brave men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices to protect our freedoms.

Movers for Meals

The fall season typically involves family and friend gatherings around a feast to give thanks. Unfortunately many families are unable to participate in this tradition. To help support local families facing hunger crises around the country, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations host the Movers for Meals food drive each fall. Movers for Meals runs each October and November and ends just before Thanksgiving. Local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® outlets partner with schools, businesses, food pantries, and local shelters to collect non-perishable food items with the goal of putting more food on tables.

Movers for Mutts

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about our furry friends. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® developed Movers for Mutts in an effort to help local animal shelters support and foster stray animals. This program is hosted each fall and partners with local businesses, schools, and organizations to collect food, toys, and other essential items pets may need while living in local animal shelters.

Truckload of Warmth

PrintTruckload of Warmth is a program dedicated to supporting local shelters during the cold, sometimes unbearable, winter weather by collecting warm clothing including new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and anything needed to stay warm. This program is relatively new in the past few years and began with only a few locations throughout the country who wanted to support local shelters during the cold, winter months. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® partners with local schools, businesses, and organizations to collect these items each fall and donate them to local shelters in need.

At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® we are very grateful to everyone who has donated to these programs and have allowed us help others in need. Contact your local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® location to learn how you can help your community.

Movers for Moms® 2013

Written by Claire Schneider

It’s an exciting time at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® lately as we ramp up our Movers for Moms® program once again! We are very passionate about our Core Values and Movers for Moms® is a big part of them.

What is Movers for Moms®?Movers For Moms

Movers for Moms® is a program that was started by TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® nearly five years ago because we not only wanted to give to charity, but also be a part of the cause. Movers for Moms® is based around the communities where our franchisees are located and is focused on making life easier for less fortunate women, who are forced to stay in shelters on Mother’s Day. Our goal is to make sure their day is special as well.

“Among industrialized nations, the United States has the largest number of homeless women and children. Not since the Great Depression have so many families been without homes.”

– GreenDoors.org

More than 100 TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations across the country have partnered with schools to begin collecting items for mothers in need. Our TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations will then pick up the items and deliver them to their shelter partners just in time for Mother’s Day.

How you can help

It’s simple! All you have to do is bring your donated items to a participating TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® location near you. Typical donation items may include: soaps, hair styling products, shampoos and conditioners, pillows, blankets, slippers and basic essential items.

We will take care of the rest!

Getting kids involved

Movers for Moms® is a great way to teach kids how important it is to give back to the communities in which we live. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® wants to thank all the schools that are participating in the program this year. We have seen tremendous growth in the past year and now have 420 schools taking part in the program, compared to 200 last year. We could not have made this program what it is today without them!

Movers for Moms

KinderCare

We especially want to thank KinderCare for their involvement with Movers for Moms® this year. KinderCare works hard to improve the lives of children in communities where we live and work. With the expertise that comes with caring for and educating hundreds of thousands of children nationally, KinderCare has a unique understanding of child development, early childhood education, parenting and teaching. They understand the needs of children, families and communities.

If KinderCare sounds like the perfect environment for your child to grow, join KinderCare for their Open House Tuesday, April 23 and let their community show you what makes this place one of a kind. Sign up the week of 4/21 and get $100 off tuition. Their Open House provides the chance to tour their center, meet the teachers, talk with other parents and engage in family-fun activities. KinderCare Learning Centers are excited to show you their nationally recognized education program as well as the child-specific focus their teachers bring to the center. To learn more or find a location near you, please visit www.kindercare.com.

Thank you KinderCare for your support in the Movers for Moms® program!

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Gives Back to the Community

This month at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® we have focused on our core value of giving back to the community.  Whether it’s donating a move or raising money for a good cause, we believe in supporting our communities and helping people move forward.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has not only seen success with the annual Movers for Moms® program, but we are excited about the $2 million worth of moving services we donated this year. There is nothing better than knowing we made a difference in the communities around us.

Franchisee Jason Judson

One of our franchise owners Jason Judson from St. Louis, Mo., said it best:

“Our community is the reason we wake up every day and come to work. If it wasn’t for our community, we would not have a thriving business and be able to employ so many great people.”

You don’t need to be a part of a big company to be able to give back to your community. Here are some great ideas of how to give back:

  • Donate clothing: One of the easiest ways to give back is to donate clothing you are no longer using. We all have those pieces of clothing pushed way back in our closet that has not seen the light of day in some time. Instead of just leaving it there to collect dust, take it to your local Salvation Army or Goodwill. Just remember to make sure they are washed before you donate them; it will be much appreciated!
  • Volunteer: Many people cringe when they hear the word volunteer, but it doesn’t have to be something boring or dirty. Instead, think of your skills and what you have to offer (we are all good at something!). If you are athletic, look into volunteering at one of your local community centers to teach kids about sports or check out your local Humane Society and see if they need someone to play with the animals or walk the dogs. If you are more on the artistic side, call a nursing home to see if they would like to have a musician come in and play music for everyone.
  • Send greetings: So many people are having a hard time and just need some cheering up. A fun and easy thing to do is to work with a shelter and make cards for the kids there. This will be an encouraging and positive moment they will remember for days to come. You could also include something small and fun like stickers with your card. There are also programs like AMillionThanks.org, which provide a simple way to just say thank you to our troops. It may seem small and simple but it means a lot to them.

These are just a couple of things you can do to get involved and support your community. Check out these great pictures from some of the charity events the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® system has recently been part of.
